ExpertChantier is a Swiss company that provides a highly specialized service: they create detailed visual and written reports of a property’s condition before and after nearby construction. Their mission is to help property owners protect their buildings by documenting everything that could later be used as legal proof if any construction related damage occurs. The service combines drone footage, technical reports, and legal support, ensuring that clients are fully covered. For this project, I led the entire UX/UI design process.
Many property owners in Switzerland are unaware of the potential damage that nearby construction can cause to their buildings. Even more importantly, they don’t realize how difficult it is to prove responsibility once the damage has occurred. Without documentation from before the work begins, legal claims are often dismissed. ExpertChantier exists to solve this problem, but the nature of their service is unfamiliar to most people. They needed a digital platform that could clearly explain what they do, help users understand why it matters, and guide them smoothly through the booking and documentation process.
To understand the users’ mindset, I conducted interviews with homeowners who had experienced construction related damage, real estate professionals, and a lawyer specialized in construction disputes. From these conversations, I learned that most people feel overwhelmed when they realize they need to take legal action, especially if they didn’t prepare in advance. Many didn’t know services like ExpertChantier existed. What they wanted was clear information, fast access to help, and a sense of control over the situation. I also benchmarked similar services in adjacent industries, such as drone inspection companies and property documentation services, and found that most of them used cold, technical language and lacked clear UX flows. This gap confirmed the need for a more human, visual, and educational approach.
To gain a deep understanding of our target users' needs, pain points, and expectations, I conducted a round of qualitative user interviews as part of the discovery phase of the ExpertChantier project. The primary objective was to validate assumptions around the service concept and identify the emotional and practical challenges people face when dealing with construction near their property.
I interviewed five participants in total: three homeowners who had experienced construction work near their property within the past two years, one real estate agent managing multiple buildings in Geneva, and one legal expert specializing in construction related disputes. The participants were carefully selected to represent both residential users and industry professionals who regularly interact with affected buildings.
After around a 30 mins interview with each person, this is what i found:
I created detailed personas to guide the interface and feature decisions. One example was Sophie, a 42 year old homeowner in Geneva who had a new tower being built near her property. She was worried about cracks in her walls but didn’t know whom to trust. Another persona was Marc, a real estate manager handling multiple rental properties in urban areas, needing a scalable way to prove pre existing conditions for legal insurance purposes.
The core objective of the ExpertChantier project was to design a digital platform that simplifies, secures, and professionalizes the process of documenting property conditions before and after nearby construction. The platform needed to serve as both an educational hub and a legal proof generating service, empowering users with tools that protect their homes and investments. From a UX/UI perspective, my mission was to translate a technical and unfamiliar service into a clear, trustworthy, and seamless user experience.
To ensure a seamless and intuitive experience, I designed a user flow for ExpertChantier that guides users from discovery to legal protection in a few clear steps. Users begin by visiting the homepage where they are immediately introduced to the service's value comprehensive reports documenting a property's condition before and after nearby construction. From there, they can easily explore how the service works and request a personalized quote through a streamlined form. Once an inspection is scheduled, users receive confirmation and access to a secure dashboard where all photo reports, drone videos, and legal documents are stored. The platform also prompts a post construction follow up, allowing users to compare before and after data effortlessly. If damage occurs, clients can directly access their reports to support legal claims, making ExpertChantier a powerful tool for homeowners and property managers alike.
After userflows, I built a clear sitemap focusing on five core areas: Homepage, Services, dashboards, Client Portal, and Legal Resources. Each section needed to serve both newcomers looking to understand the concept, and returning clients accessing important files. The information had to flow logically: from emotional reassurance and education to technical depth and call to action.
I began sketching low fidelity wireframes, focusing first on mobile responsiveness since most users search for solutions on their phones during work or stressful moments. The homepage opened with a powerful value proposition, followed by a short explanation of the inspection process, types of reports offered, example visuals (drone shots and images), and real client testimonials. The service booking flow was simplified into three steps: enter address, choose inspection date, and upload optional notes or concerns.
The branding for ExpertChantier was designed to reflect trust, precision, and clarity, echoing the company’s mission to provide transparent and legally reliable documentation before and after construction work. The identity balances professionalism with accessibility, ensuring clients feel both secure and informed.
A professional, architectural inspired palette consisting of slate grey, structural white,, and deep steel blue. These tones show a sense of stability, seriousness, and clarity, while subtle accents in warm terracotta or safety yellow hint at the construction field. The combination communicates authority and trust, without feeling cold or impersonal.
Headlines are set in MANROPE SANS, a modern, clean sans serif font that communicates clarity, neutrality, and professionalism, ideal for technical and legal contexts. Body text is presented in Inter, chosen for its high readability and modern aesthetic, ensuring that long form reports and online content remain accessible and trustworthy.
The visual direction includes drone photography of buildings, architectural plans, and close ups of construction textures (like stone, wood, and concrete). Imagery focuses on before and after contrasts, showcasing ExpertChantier’s role in documenting and protecting the integrity of clients’ properties. The tone is clean, minimal, and evidence driven, reinforcing the company’s role as a neutral, professional third party in construction and legal disputes.
After creating the branding for ExpertChantier, I then designed high fidelity frames and prototyped them so that I could test the app and get user feedback.
The project is still under development, with the first phase (the marketing website) already live. The next phase involves building the secure client portal where users can log in to access their reports, drone videos, and documentation. This part is currently in progress and includes implementing user authentication, report search functionality, and a video/document viewer system. Final testing, performance optimization, and user feedback rounds are also scheduled before the full platform launch.
